Senior Engineer, Storage Firmware

Position Purpose

Under light general supervision participates in development, testing and benchmarking of complex computer-based storage systems.


Scope and Responsibilities

• Develops systems requirements and specifications.
• Executes the development, integration, and testing of complex storage systems.
• Verifies systems meet specifications and conducts analysis to modify existing configurations as necessary.
• Analyzes new software and hardware to determine application and integration with total product.
• Performs functional tests to establish working parameters for software and hardware capable of determining    best test practices and recommending system design changes where necessary to maximize performance.
• Capable of preparing and presenting information using Microsoft Office.
• Competent to conduct complex research and design and documentation. May lead projects and provides    leadership and training to more junior engineers.
• Should be experienced in interdisciplinary operation, and have demonstrated the ability to work cohesively    and proactively in the overall business team.
• Responsible for completion of a phase or entire project.
• Must substantially understand the competitive technical position, relative to the market, of all assigned    projects.
• Must be able to interface with customers and their technical experts and in doing so present a professional,    supportive and competent professional demeanor.
• Additional duties as assigned.
 

Experience and Requirements

Minimum 5 years experience. Employee must work safely at all times, and maintain confidentiality of all company and customer information.
 

Specific Experience (Required)

• Hands-on experience developing and integrating SCSI Enclosure Services (SES) and embedded firmware into    storage systems
• Have participated in the release of several large storage systems products
• Very familiar with the possible architectures of leading edge storage systems
• Understand storage topologies, and their implications regarding performance and function
• Knowledge of storage software available in the market.
• Experience interfacing with a broad variety of vendors at the technical level
• Have worked with both Windows and Linux hosts
• Understand testing methodologies including performance measurement when required
• Very knowledgeable of a variety of storage technologies, including RAID, NAS, iSCSI, SAN, virtualization,    distributed file systems, grid storage, High Data Availability, D2D2T, backup/restore, etc.
• Understand the impact of storage system interfaces including SAS, SATA, FC, Ethernet, InfiniBand
• Organized in testing, recording and reporting
• Very knowledgeable of current benchmarking software and testing methodologies
• Able to analyze and present results
• Have a documented list of completed projects and achievements that can be verified
 

Education

Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or similar discipline is minimum requirement

 

Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing, sitting, walking, handling, feeling with hands, reaching with arms.
• Regular communication (hearing/speaking).
• Lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling.
• Frequently involves working near moving or mechanical parts.
• Occasional risk of electrical shock.
• Vision requirements include: close, distant, color perception, peripheral, depth and ability to focus.
• Noise conditions are moderate.
